Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a significant initiative for the 2025 academic session by introducing 63 new online courses on the SWAYAM platform.

These courses, designed by BHU faculty, cover a diverse range of subjects, providing students across India with access to quality education. The registration process is now open, with classes commencing from July 21 and August 18, 2025. Interested candidates can enroll through the official SWAYAM portal: (https://swayam.gov.in/INI).

Course Duration and Subject Offerings

The newly introduced courses vary in duration, spanning four, eight, and twelve weeks. They encompass both traditional and contemporary disciplines, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. Key subjects include:  

  1. Commerce & Management 
  2. Arts & Humanities 
  3. Sociology & Psychology 
  4. Life Sciences & Engineering
  5. Law & Ayurveda

Examinations for these courses are scheduled to begin in October 2025, allowing students ample time to prepare.  

What is SWAYAM?

SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, aimed at democratizing education. The platform offers free, high-quality online courses from premier institutions, enabling students from remote areas to access learning resources without financial constraints.

BHU’s Expanding Role in Digital Education

BHU has been actively contributing to SWAYAM, having previously developed 37 courses in the last two sessions. With the addition of 63 new courses, the university has strengthened its position in online education. Recognizing its efforts, the Ministry of Education has appointed BHU as the National Coordinator (NC) for SWAYAM, specifically overseeing courses from Institutes of National Importance (INIs), including IITs and Central Universities.  

Dr. Ashutosh Mohan Appointed as National Coordinator

Dr. Ashutosh Mohan, a faculty member at BHU’s Institute of Management Studies, has been entrusted with the role of National Coordinator for SWAYAM. In this capacity, he will supervise the quality and operations of online courses offered by over 160 INIs across India. This appointment marks a significant milestone for BHU and reinforces its leadership in digital education.

BHU Launches Dedicated News Portal

In addition to its academic initiatives, BHU has introduced a new news portal – (https://news.bhu.ac.in). This platform provides regular updates on:

  5. Video galleries & project highlights
